I kind of already touched on this a little in my previous write-up, but I will talk about more then just the goalies in this one. I am basically talking about trades and how to improve the team. Chris Pronger coming in really gives the team the ability to allow 1-3 (or 1-2?) goals a night, every night. The problem for the Anaheim Ducks is going to be scoring more then 1-3 goals a game.
Our leading scorer is 36 years old, that is not a knock on Selanne, not at all. The next threat is Andy McDonald, who has been promising for the past few years, lets hope last year wasn’t just because it was a contract situation. We are patching together the forwards and I don’t know if I like it as a fan. I love the grit we get from Rob Niedermayer, Samuel Pahlsson, Todd Marchant and the three big rookies from last year, but grit doesn’t score all the goals.
This team is by far the biggest team we have ever had, only two players are under 6 feet. I hope that Carlyle continues to do what he stressed last season. A good forecheck, shot blocking and take the body every chance you get. It worked against the big, bad Flames in round one last season, it should work all season. Be sure to bring up players every once in a while to give your guys a day off though. I would hate to see the team lose some games because they were worn down from playing physical every game.
Does size translate to goals? Time will tell on that argument. I believe that it will, for the most part, work out in the Ducks favor. I also think that Brian Burke will work some more magic and get another 20 goal scorer to put in the lineup. Or, maybe we get lucky and someone develops fast in Portland, Bobby Ryan? Either way, I think it will be the only chink in the Anaheim armor.
We all remember who the best team after the All-Star break was last year right? It will continue on into the upcoming season. Lupil who…?

Nice site. I’ll throw a link this way.
Um, the best team after the All-Star break (also known as the Olympic break) was Detroit still, followed closely by SJ and Ana, but yeah, it’s a good point.
And it’s a good sign we’re already misspelling Lupul’s name, heh heh.
