Whine & Cheese: The Sequel

Wow, that was a pretty embarrassing loss. I don’t think anyone should take it too seriously though, but the Red Wings sure did roast Anaheim last night. I can’t really single anything out except the late goal by Holmstrom in the first, that one looked like a punch in the stomach. Everyone played like shit last night, especially Scott Niedermayer, but we already know that don’t we? He let two cross ice slot passes by that went in for goals, that is pretty bad. The Ducks seem like they thought tonight would be cake, that Detroit wouldn’t have anything left in the tank after losing game two in over time. I personally thought the same thing, I didn’t think the Red Wings would be able to shake the loss off that easily, but I was wrong and they did.

Detroit did an excellent job of mixing everything up last night, Mike Babcock and his coaching staff drew up some good stuff in the sand. That goes to show you how good their team is and how cohesive they are if you can role any three forwards together and get results. One way to stop the shut down line of the Ducks is to make sure they aren’t playing against your teams best forwards, last change didn’t mean a damn thing in game three, they were beaten at every level.

As for the big hit on Holmstrom, they nabbed the wrong guy, Niedermayer hit him with his shoulder and Pronger shoved him. Pronger also hit him in the upper back and rolled up to his head with the forearm. Holmstrom’s helmet came off a little to easy, as was evident a few other times in the game. I am not saying what Pronger did was right, it is fucked up to try to injure anyone, if that was his intention. Obviously I come from my perspective as a Ducks fan and say a penalty for Pronger, but no suspension needed. So all the Red Wings fans get up in arms, you want the suspension and you want him arrested, etc. You would have the same reaction if the roles were flipped, but you wont attest to that, so lets just keep going.

But some of these comments you guys leave are fucking ridiculous. The Red Wings won in a very exclamation type fashion, you all stayed up late so you could go to all the Ducks blogs and comment on how awesome your team played. Some even saying “we”. Players don’t say ‘”we”, they say the fans were great or they call them a sixth man or something like that. Some people need to separate fantasy from reality. Then others wish mortal harm against Chris Pronger? What the fuck!?!

I never did like him, funny how I felt sorry for him when he took the puck to the heart a few years back. Now I recognize him for the goon he is. - Rocket Rob

Then someone else was chirping about the Getlaf high stick was a good thing, which was about an inch from ending the wonderful career he has ahead of him. This is some sick shit, real classy. I cheer for a team that played a not so clean game last night, really one play, but I will be damned if I EVER wish harm on someone.

The league will go ahead and do what it wants about this whole issue. So you can throw up all your little poles, buzz about in your comments and forums or call the commissioner. I have zero problem with the Red Wings hockey team and even most of its fans. Like I said, you are like Yankee fans and think you are on a pedestal, maybe that will change in game four, seeing as how you can’t borrow goals from a previous game.

I think what upset me the most about the game last night was that I upgraded my cable package so I could get the MOJO channel, which switches to Versus HD when a hockey game is being broadcasted. Not only did the Ducks lay a golden egg, the quality of the video was half ass. Plus the commentators for Versus couldn’t get anyones name right either, damn it!

Let the hate comments commence…

Well, you wouldn’t allow it posted down below. Let’s try it here:

    Some of Daniel’s past observations:

“Holmstrom can not take all that beating himself.”

    Wrong…

“How the hell is Hasek going to not start taking penalties for getting run so much.”

    Wrong…

“Red Wings fans, if you think nothing is wrong and all is well, you are living in a bubble.”

    Wrong…

“Anaheim is just too much of a force for those guys to deal with game after game.
There cannot be anything left in the tank for a long series with a much more brutal team like Anaheim.”

    Wrong…

“I wont pick scores anymore, at least not to where a team wins by more then one goal, because that probably wont happen.”

How does a final score of five-to-gah strike you, Sparky?

    And finally:

“Let us see what they come with on Tuesday after losing in OT.”

    Pw3nd…
    Any questions?

  2. 2 Rocket Rob May 16th, 2007 at 11:01 am

“…wish mortal harm against Chris Pronger? What the f***!?!

C’mon, I did NOT say that. Take off your duckpoop-colored goggles for a minute and at least try to look at things objectively. It is obvious Pronger was trying to injure Holmstrom, well at least obvious to most. For that there should be swift punishment handed out by the NHL. Do you condone Pronger’s actions? There is no place for such nonsense in life, let alone in sports. It was a sick and brutal attack worthy of a multiple game suspension. Sadly the NHL will let him off with nothing.

“Then someone else was chirping about the Getlaf high stick was a good thing, which was about an inch from ending the wonderful career he has ahead of him.”

That was an awful incident too, but was incidental and not intentional like the Goon Pronger’s head slam into the glass. And puhhhhlease spare us the melodramatic crap of “about an inch from ending the wonderful career he has ahead of him.” Sheesh.

Let me ask you…how did you feel about the high stick Holmstrom took in the Calgary series? Now THAT was close to costing a guy his eye. Are you pissed about that, or only when it involves a Duck player?

I would like nothing more than to see the coward Pronger get his ass kicked fair and square on the ice, but mortal harm? Not quite.

  3. 3 MightyMightyMutherDucker May 16th, 2007 at 11:50 am

RocketRob, I speak for all Feathered Friends when I say that we are saddened by Homestums recovery - that punka$$ Swedish meathead has been hackin and whackin his way thru a lame exsuse for a hockey career for waaaay too long…its about time the Mighty Muther Duckers came out to play FOR REEL and showed what it takes to play REEL hockey. Hes lucky he can walk. Long Duck Prong was just finihsing his check-so quit yer crying wing fanz. I think LDP was actually disappointed Homo’s eyes didnt pop out so he could shoot them down the ice and give Hasheck aka Flipper sumptin to do. Who cares about the score? yer gonna loose and you know it. yer goin out in doggy bags like leftovers from drive thru - The Mighty Muther Duckers dont need skillz like the wings…they gotz da WILLZ….get the Stanly Manly cup ready boyz! the Can-a-DUH pukes is next!

  4. 4 Daniel May 16th, 2007 at 12:11 pm

…See what we have in Southern California? I have a hard time understanding any of MightyMightyMutherDucker’s paragraph above…

As for the high stick to Holmstrom, I am not sure, I never saw that one, all I heard was something about blood in his eye. I don’t care who it is, if anyone gets hit in the eye or around it, that is serious, no matter who the player or team. Brad May himself could get hit in the eye and I would feel really really bad for him and his family.

Enough of the Pronger goon talk as well. I have seen so many other worse things happen and a lot less burning at the stake. If it wasn’t Holmstrom or any Red Wing, would it have made a sound in your world?

  5. 5 LetsGoDucks May 16th, 2007 at 12:28 pm

It did my heart well to see Holmstrom get smashed last night. The only thing Pronger did wrong on that play is not injure him enough to make sure he did not come back. This Wings team is soft and deserve no respoect, the mere fact they are on the ice is offensive.

Maltby should be banned from the NHL for life for the hit on Getlaf. It was easily the single dirtiest play I’ve ever seen in the NHL or any sport.

  6. 6 ColBerdan May 16th, 2007 at 1:05 pm

“The only thing Pronger did wrong on that play is not injure him enough to make sure he did not come back.”

Sorry Dan, I got distracted by the comments. You were saying something about Detroit fans saying some sick shit and not being classy?

Pronger is generally a goon. He was in St. Louis and he is now. The only reason the Holmstrom hit wasn’t more serious was he threw his elbow too high (also why Homer’s helmet came off). He should have taken the penalties dealt to Niedermayer, but I don’t think a suspension is called for. I’m not exactly sure what having a sound made in my world entails, but I would have viewed the hit as just as dirty had it been against any other team or done by a Red Wing.

  7. 7 Daniel May 16th, 2007 at 1:30 pm

    ColBerdan

Ok and no one is saying it wasn’t wrong. But someone at a large written media outlet writing an article about calling the commish? This isn’t American Idol, damn. Sorry Pronger, you got more text message votes to be voted off. Everything about it is blown out of proportion.

As for Ponger being a goon, again…You know he played quite a few games last year in the playoffs and I don’t remember anything being said. I can’t really remember too many times of a Pronger incident really. I don’t care anymore, Thursday will determine what needs to be said.

Now I feel like I am on a forum, arguing about something meaningless.

    Yep, those damn ‘Wings fans…

Psssst… hey LetsGoDucks… that was an accidental/incidental high stick by Maltby, brought on by Getzlaf lifting his stick. Watch the video. 5 times, maybe 10.

Pronger, the perennial crybaby and cheapshot artist, is finally held to account for his ridiculous and classless actions. About time.

I think you just showed your true colors with your sickening “The only thing Pronger did wrong on that play is not injure him enough to make sure he did not come back” comment.

No matter the color of the sweateror the name on the back, no sane person thinks like that.

    Mouth-breathing troll.

  9. 9 Daniel May 16th, 2007 at 1:38 pm

And it looks like you got your wish as well Wings fans…

  10. 10 Daniel May 16th, 2007 at 1:43 pm

Class of the internet again…If you removed your head from Hasek’s ass, you would see he complains more than anyone. Hell of a goalie, but he whines.

  11. 11 TeamDub May 16th, 2007 at 1:45 pm

“And it looks like you got your wish as well Wings fans…”

Not really, I’d wager that most true fans were hoping for a hard-fought, exciting, CLEAN series and not have to deal with the cheap crap that Pronger pulled. Rneider got the short end, as his portion of the hit was pretty clean and I have no problem with it. Pronger should have been booted along with his measly one game suspension.

Pronger has a history of this sort of thing, it’s about time he got his love-tap wakeup call.

  12. 12 Rocket Rob May 16th, 2007 at 1:51 pm

One game suspension for The Goon. Better than nothing, but far short of what he deserved.

  13. 13 ColBerdan May 16th, 2007 at 2:09 pm

I’ll be the first to admit that Hasek is a whiner. I would also add flopper to that. How that shows Pronger isn’t a whiner, I’m not sure, but there we have it.

Pronger cleaned it up a bit last year and wasn’t as bad, but is no stranger to thuggery. Like I said before, he spent years in St. Louis doing his Angry Sasquatch on Ice impersonation. I was hoping he had learned he could be a great player without the childish rage, but it seems he’s slipped back into old habits.

  14. 14 RedWingScott May 16th, 2007 at 2:46 pm

I love the attention I recieved for saying “we” in my response. God damn gimme a fricken break for being a fan. You ducksters love you team as much as I love my wings. Now lets get to the game, you cannot deny the fact that your team was getting beaten pretty soundly on home ice and some of your stars just lost their minds and decided to go goon on Holmstrom. I too want the wings to play your team with all of your best players intact so that if we win we can say we beat your team with the best players on the ice. I like the classy comments that your fans are leaving, it only shows the growing frustration with the way the series is going. I like our chances in game 4 with or without pronger in the lineup. Can you deny how dominant the wings were in game 3? Worst playoff loss in ducks history and now they have to play the next game which is in my opinion, a must win game for the ducks. You don not want any part of being down 3-1 with the next game at joe louis arena. Go Wings!!!!!!!

  15. 15 Rocket Rob May 16th, 2007 at 2:57 pm

    Did you watch the game????

What is there to talk about? The major ass whooping the Wings put on the Ducks, or the Pronger cheap shot. That’s it. Somehow both are distasteful topics to you so let’s have a blog with no posts!!!!! I’ve been nice unil now but shit Pronger is just a pussy. With the Blues he was a puss, with Edmonton too, and now with Anaheimlich maneuver he is still a puss. Goon, punk, no class whiner. Go post with your MightyDuckDingbatDipshit buddy about how awesome the Ducks are, and while you’re at it sing some Koombaya together.

I am glad the NHL suspended him just to see him whimper, whine, piss and moan. His normal expression looks like his ‘roids are hurting him.

  16. 16 Daniel May 16th, 2007 at 2:57 pm

I think I gave the Red Wings a whole lot of credit in this post, maybe I read it wrong after I wrote it or something.

  17. 17 Jason May 16th, 2007 at 3:36 pm

Hey Daniel - this is an awesome wings forum you have here.

  18. 18 Daniel May 16th, 2007 at 4:39 pm

“I don’t know a whole lot of hockey lingo”

Thanks for the comment Jason…makes me feel good inside.

  19. 19 Paul May 16th, 2007 at 5:09 pm

Hmmm, Daniel, Ducks fans are cheering the vicious cheapshot Pronger put on Holmstrom. Why aren’t you calling them out like you called out Rocket Rob for his comments about seeing Pronger hurt?

“Players don’t say ‘”we”, they say the fans were great or they call them a sixth man or something like that.”

Um, I’ve been watching sports for a long, long time and I hear the players refer to their city and fans as “we” all the time. Players identify with the city and the fans, and the fans identify with the players - in cities like Detroit, anyway.

  20. 20 Paul May 16th, 2007 at 5:12 pm

BTW, Daniel, I think your original post gave the Wings plenty of credit and was a fair analysis of the game. However, your description of the Pronger cheapshot on Holmstrom is way off the mark. Shoved? You have to to be kidding. His forearm rolled up his back? Bunk. He took his hand off his stick and lifted his forearms up before he even made contact. Watch it over and over until you see it for what it was.

  21. 21 Rocket Rob May 16th, 2007 at 6:18 pm

Thru the magic of TIVO I rewatched the Pronger shot on Holmstrom. Pronger left his feet and clearly went after Homer’s head. It almost makes me sick watching it. I can’t fathom how even a Duck’s fan can minimize this. It was vicious, blatant and dirty. Pronger obviously was trying to severely hurt him. You don’t screw around with head injuries.

Pronger is a total nut job and I hope someone evens the score on this gutless man. He is dangerous, just one big overgrown baby who throws hissy fits when things don’t go his way. He needs professional mental help.

  22. 22 Jason May 16th, 2007 at 6:28 pm

“Um, I’ve been watching sports for a long, long time and I hear the players refer to their city and fans as “we” all the time. Players identify with the city and the fans, and the fans identify with the players - in cities like Detroit, anyway.”

I understand what you are saying. In Detroit, you guys don’t have much so you have to identify with your sports teams. It makes sense to me… you live in a shit-hole and you have to grasp on to anything positive that you can.

  23. 23 Daniel May 16th, 2007 at 6:29 pm

    Rob, it is over, seriously.

On ESPN they were talking about how they talked to Colin Campbell after the anouncement and how he said Pronger was ‘head hunting’. Fine, whatever. I know it was cheap, etc. But seriously, if they think that, why didn’t they suspend him for the rest of the year or more then one game? If that is what they think happened, that is ridiculous that only one game was given. Hits to the head could be life threatening, is one game really the right message to send to players about something that could actually kill someone or render them a vegetable or at least end their career? (See Adam Deadmarsh)

  24. 24 Rocket Rob May 16th, 2007 at 7:48 pm

You think I can explain the slap on the wrist Pronger got?

    1) Gary Bettman is an idiot
    2) Colin Campbell, if your note is factual, is stupid
    3) Pronger, for whatever reason, is deemed a “star” in this league
    4) You can’t punish a player in the playoffs

A 1 game suspension just defies logic. Apparently the NHL product is great when a team down 3 goals resorts to goalie stick cross checks (Calgary) or vicisous head slams (Pronger). The NHL is run by fucking retarded people.

Pronger will just do it again. He is a sick man.

  25. 25 Rocket Rob May 16th, 2007 at 7:50 pm

C’mon Jason - are the Detroit attacks the best you can do?

  26. 26 Ashley May 16th, 2007 at 10:25 pm

Okay, bottom line- the Wings played a much better hockey game than the Ducks did last night. The other Anaheim fans who are whining about bad refs- come on. True, there may have been some calls that should have gone for the Ducks, but the Wings just ended up playing a better game and finding open net.

The higher the Wings’ score, the more frustrated the Ducks got, and it seems like they started racking up unnecessary penalities as a result of that frustration. Pronger went too far with his hit on Holstrom, and as much as I think he is a vital part of the Ducks’ d-line, he should be sitting out the next game. No matter how frustrated players get with scores not going their way, that is not a reason to go crazy with cheap shots. I’m hoping that the Ducks can get their heads back in the game for Thursday, so I can see my team (yes, MY- get over it) tie up the series.

Yes, that’s right, I am a Ducks fan.

  27. 27 Rocket Rob May 17th, 2007 at 3:41 am

Put the crack pipe down, Brian.

“We disagree completely with (NHL disciplinarian) Colin Campbell’s decision here. But we respect the process,” Ducks general manager Brian Burke said. “If you watch some of the other views, it looks like a dangerous, high hit. If you look at the end zone view, I think it shows best that Chris Pronger went to hit Tomas Holmstrom at a 45-degree angle from the boards.

    What an asshole.

I guess, Bri, if you look at the replay from the Goodyear blimp you won’t be able to see Pussy Pronger raise BOTH arms and slam Holmstrom’ head into the glass.

Burke is photoshoping what happened in his heads. An angle here, crop this there…..boooyah it was a clean hit.

Did Bri also photoshop the picture of OJ wearing those “ugly ass shoes”??

“If I leave my head up my ass it looks like a clean hit”
    -Brian “M I C K E Y M OOOO UUUUU S EEEEEEEE MOUSE” Burke

“I understand what you are saying. In Detroit, you guys don’t have much so you have to identify with your sports teams. It makes sense to me… you live in a shit-hole and you have to grasp on to anything positive that you can.”

Yeah, pretty much. It’s why I left Detroit. The quality sports - NHL, NBA, MLB, NCAA - are one of the few bright spots in that city. Of course, the real reason fans there identify so much with their sports teams is, well, the teams have been around for a century.

  29. 29 kim jackson May 17th, 2007 at 5:43 am

I guess their going to have to make another rule in the nhl, that all players have to know their height before they play, because evidently Cris Prongers to stupid to know when he`s bigger than another player. give me a stink`in break!!!! pronger and Niedermayer had that hit planned and they should both be suspended. wait till that crap happens to one of their own, and i hope it does. and that crap about holmstroms helemt not being on right is crap! if a drunk driver kills a person without a seatbelt is it the dead persons fault for not wearing the seat belt or the asshole drunk.

  30. 30 kim jackson May 17th, 2007 at 6:02 am

looks like the norris trophy is only a wet dream to pronger now!

  31. 31 kim jackson May 17th, 2007 at 6:04 am

Comments locked on this post, thanks for the memories guys.

As for a hit happening to us, it wont happen or that guy will get his ass pounded.
I was absolutely shocked no one stood up for Holmstrom.
