Cleanup On Aisle Four

Well, well, well. Here we are, it is finally Thursday and we can all waste time at work arguing EVEN MORE about the hit, the suspension and the superiority of the Yankees Red Wings. While I honestly believe the Ducks can win this game tonight, it is the first time this year that I have doubt some doubt if the team can pull one out. They have not looked dominant in very many games this postseason, which with this cast of players shocks me. Anaheim has to pull together tonight, because if they lose this game, they wont beat Hasek three games in a row. Also, losing this series will probably spell the end for the Giguere era, I doubt they can re-sign him. Then again, maybe Brian Burke can steal him for one more year and make a couple other adjustments, do it Burke.

Hopefully we see Ric Jackman and not Aaron Rome in the lineup tonight, one regular season and one playoff game are not enough experience for a game of this magnitude. Ric is dependable as is everyone else on the blueline tonight. As long as they tie up sticks and wash faces, making it as unpleasant as possible for anyone trying to get a sniff. Hockey is a game of memories. Whether it be how this guy undressed you with his stickwork or how someone pounded your face in to the glass. The Ducks wanted to send a message after being blown out, it was just a little overboard on one play. If the Ducks can play with that much emotion but keep it contained, they should be fine tonight.

And what about Chris Pronger? Well who cares really, he was suspended and now it is over. Colin Campbell and the league are a bunch of idiots though. Campbell said he thought Pronger’s hit was an intentional shot to the head. Ok, so if you believe that, why the hell was he only given one game? Sorry, but that isn’t enough time for something that could be insanely dangerous. Hockey is a tough sport, but look at some old football players, head injuries are serious, not something you brush over with a one game suspension.

Detroit fans, do with this as you will. You guys always have something to say, never objective though. Thirty-two comments in the last thread, let’s see if we can’t beat that today. But…I guess that has more to do with the game tonight, if Detroit wins you will be all over it. If they lose, you will say something like “Stupid refs” or “Chris Fucking Pronger” or “Your team was named after an Emilio Estevez movie” (Men at Work?). Always remember this, Ducks fly together!

Final Score: Ducks: 100 - Red Wings: 99 (100 goals by the blow up doll in front of the arena, per Earl’s request.)

Yeah, the blow up doll is quite the offensive force once parked in front of the net. I think 100 goals scored might be conservative.

But yeah, the guy is horrible defensively. Never moves his feet, and keeps hitting his head on the jumbotron. :)

We do agree on one thing - Colon Campbell has shit for brains. His mama named him well.

Pronger is a big loss for the Ducks. Losing your leading scorer will be tough to overcome, not to mention all the minutes he plays on D. Add that to the nightmares the Duckies are having about scoring on Hasek and they are in a bad position. The Duckies can not score, cannot contain the Wings offense, and cannot intimidate or maim the Wings. Looks like they are in deep duck shit. I loved Holmstrom’s return to Game 3, it was a giant F YOU!! to Pronger and the entire Duck team.

The “hit and intimidate Detroit” mantra from all the “experts” has failed (see Calgary and San Jose). What is the answer for the Duckies? They best figure it out soon because I sense the Wings putting the stranglehold on these birds.

Detroit is the 2007 team of destiny. Hard to believe a #1 seed being an underdog but hardly anyone gave the Wings a chance. The Duckies only chance tonight is to come out strong and to grab an early lead. If they can’t do that this thing is over in 5.

The only way the Wings lose tonight is if the refs screw us ;)

Does VIA Rail go to Ottawa from Windsor??

    Wings 3 - Fowl Duckies 1 Prongooner 0

I was wrong, Red Wing fans ARE objective. Thanks for clearing that up Rob.

Would Burke really let Giguere go? I understand he’s going to get top dollar and Bryzgalov is good, but it seems like if there was a fan favorite that was worth spending the money on it would be Giguere.

I don’t want to go around to every blog trying to temper the Red Wings fans because I’m sick of the rep we’re getting, but come ON Rob. “Team of Destiny”? We’re up 2-1. “The only way the Wings lose tonight is if the refs screw us”? First of all, I’ve rarely, RARELY, seen a team lose a game, in any sport, due to the refs alone if at all. If you’re complaining about the refs, your team likely didn’t do enough anyway. And another way the Wings could lose is if they play like they did in calgary games 3 and 4, against SJ game 1, first half of game 2 or second half of game 3, or against Anaheim first half of game 2. And they are incredibly capable of doing that. See, it’s that easy. Let’s not turn into the Sharks fans of a week or so ago.

One more thing. I refer you to Iwo of A2Y saying that any Red Wings fan that falls back on the “no respect” BS is full of it. The Red Wings are the “underdogs” only because they aren’t supposed to have as much “fire”, but that was disproven in the first two rounds. Every knows they are as skilled a team as you will find, and NOT an underdog.

Okay, with that being said, Go Wings.

The Ducks need to run Hasek tonight, repeatedly. I think the best situation is send in Romey and have him just skate full speed and take a 200 foot run at Hasek. Sure, he will be suspended for the hit, but who cares, we’ll have Pronger back next game. If we can knock out Hasek, things will be looking up.

  7. 7 Earl Sleek May 17th, 2007 at 11:16 am

    Ian, thanks for that.

And LetsGoDucks, let’s not get stupid now. Besides, I don’t know if 200 feet is enough room for Aaron Rome to break into a “run”.

  8. 8 Daniel May 17th, 2007 at 11:23 am

Some people need to have their keyboards taken away from them…

If Aaron Rome is playing tonight with a healthy Jackman on the scratch, I am going to switch to a Blues or Blackhawks blog. I will start sacrificing my Ducks memorabilia to a hatchet or saxophone.

And yes Ian, thank you for actually having a real comment that has words of contrast, I hope you don’t get burned at the stake for treason.

That was a joke man!! Lighten up a bit. You must work at GM.

And to think people at work call me a Ducks slappy.

LetsGo - How about we have Bertuzzi take a 200 foot run into your Grandma?

Aw, man, was it on me? I wanna see it!!

  11. 11 Jason May 17th, 2007 at 11:43 am

    Awesome Rob, Awesome.

During high school, I played junior hockey and still hold two league records: most time spent in the penalty box; and I was the only guy to ever take off his skate and try to stab somebody.

  13. 13 Ian May 17th, 2007 at 11:45 am

Now that is a hilarious mental image.

  14. 14 Daniel May 17th, 2007 at 11:49 am

    Umm, Go Ducks?

  15. 15 Daniel P. May 17th, 2007 at 12:17 pm

rah rah rah, go Ducks, go Wings, go Sabres, go Sens…there I covered all four teams now no one will trash me…oh wait, we’re dealing with Detroit fans…I’ll still get trashed…

  16. 16 RocketRob May 17th, 2007 at 12:20 pm

And I was the only guy in my high school to run over someone’s Grandma…

“oh wait, we’re dealing with Detroit fans…I’ll still get trashed…”

At least Detroit slappies can MAKE A DECISION.

You must be a bankruptcy attorney.

I guess you don’t care about winning Daniel. Pretty sad for a Ducks blog.

  19. 19 Daniel May 17th, 2007 at 1:11 pm

Why can’t people format text properly? Did someones Hooked on Phonics tapes get lost in the mail? Break things in to paragraphs Harold, keep it simple, good grief.

  20. 20 Daniel May 17th, 2007 at 1:17 pm

What is sad is that people can’t live in reality. I am not the sixth man, I am a fan who writes on a website. I don’t dictate what happens on the ice, the players do. I want the Ducks to win more then you, believe me, I am supposed to have a party at my place with a 50 plate of naked 911’s from Hooters during one of the Finals games. But I can also see that the Ducks are up against a formidable team and they don’t have their biggest asset and they got their ass kicked two nights ago and they are on the ropes and they are fighting to tie this series. You sure you aren’t just cheering because you saw they were in first place LetsGo?

  21. 21 RocketRob May 17th, 2007 at 1:39 pm

“I am supposed to have a party at my place with a 50 plate of naked 911’s from Hooters during one of the Finals games.”

Am I invited? Is so, GOOOOOOO DUCKS! WINGS BLOW!

  22. 22 Jason May 17th, 2007 at 1:42 pm

Daniel - You are going to need more than one 50 plate.

  23. 23 Daniel May 17th, 2007 at 1:43 pm

Well it can’t happen unless the Ducks make the finals, and you have to bring beer to get in the door…

  24. 24 Rocket Rob May 17th, 2007 at 5:04 pm

Almost game time, will the Duckies rally in the absence of Prongooner?

Can the Wings repeat their game 3 performance?

A key game. Still think the Wings will come up with the big effort. Wings in good shape if tied or down by one going into the third period. Prongy helplessly watches his chances of getting his name on the Cup continue to slip away…..
