Oh man, this is going to be a blast. My buddy Dan (–who sent me the team picture on the previous post, happy now?–) asked if the Senator blogger’s were going to be like the Red Wings. Now, I really didn’t seek out anyone last series, I just sit back and do my own thing and let things come to me. But I was curious, so I took a gander at what a Senators blog might be saying, a confident group I must say.
Their first 2 series were forgone conclusions and almost impossible to watch. I thought the Wings lost that series more than the Ducks won it.
Then some argument about how Zetterburg and Datsyuk each had six points and flew around the ice uncontested. They have played better forwards in Buffalo and in Pittsburgh and the Ducks powerplay is mediocre. The Ducks hit early, but not late in games and not for a whole series. And Carlyle is as a good a coach as Niedermayer, Pronger and Giguere.
Objection! - Sustained! - Your honor?!? - What counselor?
The Penguins and Devils weren’t exactly awesome competition either. Detroit’s studs scored on the powerplay for 150% of their points, free roaming I think not. Buffalo may be deeper as far as all around 1-4 lines, but yea right, who has been as talented and as sized as the PPG line? I am not sure what to say about the powerplay line, I think the Senators should take some penalties and test that one out. I wont even talk about the physicality of the Ducks, that was just stupid to say that. As for Randy Carlyle, whatever, that one will be determined when this series is all over and Ottawa got a sniff at winning more then one game.
We have too many days now to sit at our desks or on the couch and bitch at each other about how kick ass our respective teams are and how much the other team sucks. I can not wait to hear the jokes about Disney, cartoons, video games, the movies and the market that the Ducks play in. We already know that California is not a hockey market, we don’t give a damn, that, along with the Coach Bombay jokes are over ten years old. I fell like I am in junior high hearing ‘Yo Momma’ jokes, oh snaps, heard that one before.
Believe this though, the series wont even be close. Ray Emery isn’t half of any of the three goalies the Ducks just roasted.

Hey a few more Ducks fans! Many Sens fans were hoping to meet the Wings (something about that Hasek guy) but Sens fans aren’t fussy. We’re just as happy to see the Ducks….. 8^)
Good job of cherry picking my comments but how many more times are you going to edit your original post? I can’t edit my original comments but there’s really no need to. This time the Ducks get to play a team that is healthy, rested and have 4 lines 6 D itching to go.
I only know about the Ducks is what I saw in the Wings series plus some bits and pieces of the Canucks series. I actually rooted for the Ducks to do their duty to rescue hockey from the mind-numbing scourge known as the Canucks. The Sens did their part in the rescue effort by putting the Devils away handily. After being lead to believe that the Ducks were far and away the class of the NHL and the Cup was as good as theirs (much like the fans in Buffalo once thought), the movie was not as good as the reviews when the Ducks came up against a decent Wings team. To be sure, neither the Sens or Ducks have lived up to their playoff-preview press clippings. I’m not so sure that’s a good thing for the Ducks.
I am not sure what to say about the powerplay line, I think the Senators should take some penalties and test that one out.
Even though I said the Ducks PP is average, not mediocore, the Sens take enough penalties to keep things “interesting”. I only wish that the Sens could score on just half of the breakaways & 2 on 1’s they get on the PK.
who has been as talented and as sized as the PPG line?.
The “PPG line”? After shutting down the likes of Crosby, Malkin, Gomez and all of Buffalo’s snipers, don’t be too offended if Sens fans aren’t exactly shuddering right now over containing the “PPG line”, especially since one of the P’s spends almost as much time off the line as he does on it. I’ll refer to them as the “pPG” line instead. I like the way the G plays. The other P would be a better player if he spent less time yapping and more time producing. Not sure who on the Sens the “pPG line” will see to start this series. So far, Bryan Murray (the guy who did all the hard work building these Ducks) hasn’t done much line matching because there really hasn’t been a need to. I suspect the “pPG line” will see Phillips and Volchenkov on D because they are most physical D pairing. Of course every Sens fan is hoping the “pPG line” goes straight up against Alfie, Spezza and Heatley…..
I wont even talk about the physicality of the Ducks, that was just stupid to say that.
It would be stupid if I actually said what you wrote. The Ducks have enough bangers and crashers to be sure and it’s true the Sens have yet to face a team that hits like the Ducks these playoffs, even though a few of the Penguins gave it a try in round 1. What’s also true is that the Ducks haven’t faced a deep team who will enjoy hitting them back and\or initiate the hitting from the outset. The Sens can play the way the Ducks want to. Can the Ducks play the way the Sens want to?
Believe this though, the series wont even be close.
Yes, after game three, I suspect your 3 D and 2 lines will be gassed after facing a steady diet of 4 lines 6 D and spending 15-18 mins per game trying to get the puck away from Alfie, Spezza and Heatley. Your guys might also want to think about staying out of the box, something they had trouble doing against the Wings. If the Ducks do go into the box, a good strategy is to take a 2nd penalty right away and give the Sens a long 5 on 3. Unfortunately for Sens fans, the Sens aren’t very good 5 on 3.
Ray Emery isn’t half of any of the three goalies the Ducks just roasted.
A little over 2.5 goals a game constitutes a roasting now?
Yeah it’s terrible to have a goalie who is 12-3, has a sub 2.00 GAA, is an offensive machine (2 assists) and has made plenty of big stops when his team was scuffling or under siege. Emery could be better in shootouts though. I agree that Emery is not better than Luongo. Hasek? It’s been 5 years since he has been able to carry the full load. Backstrom? No idea. And a little over 2 goals a game isn’t exactly roasting. Perhaps it was a parboiling.
It’s a little strange that Giguere had to stand on his head to get wins against the first quality team the Ducks had to face. Maybe that vaunted Ducks D isn’t all it’s cracked up to be or maybe it’s getting a little tired….. No need to mention that against the Wings, Giguere had a sub-.900 SV% in 4 of 6 games, let in 3 or more goals in 4 of 6 games and got yanked once after letting in 2, maybe 3, bad goals. I’m sure you already know that. Did you catch the part in my original comments where the Sens are undefeated when they score 3 or more?
I think we are in for an outstanding SCF (for a change) between two very good teams who can bring it. It’s also a shoo-in that the Ducks will bring much better looking fans than Buffalo and New Jersey.
Sens in 6, kicked off with a Game 1 win.
They can start the games any time now…..
I have this nasty habit of reading my post AFTER I publish it and finding things like those goofy drawings, then not wanting to make a new post. The joys of having your own domain, web hosting and choice of blogging application, you can do what you want with it. I am a little offended that your comment is longer then my post, I might need to draft up some chapters or something from now on. I wont go on an argue every point you made, no need to. It really, really sucks that we have to wait four more days to see this series. But game one? Not so sure about that.
